Evelyn Berezin

Biography

Evelyn Berezin was a computer engineer who built the first true computerized word processor. In 1969, she founded Redactron Corporation and designed the Data Secretary, a desk-sized machine that allowed users to edit, delete, and reformat text — capabilities taken for granted today but revolutionary at the time. Earlier in her career at Underwood Corporation and Teleregister, she helped design one of the first computer-based airline reservation systems for United Airlines. The New York Times called her 'the most important person in history that you've never heard of.'
