Emmy Noether
The Mother of Modern Algebra
Biography
Emmy Noether transformed abstract algebra and theoretical physics. Noether's theorem, which proves a deep connection between symmetries and conservation laws, is considered one of the most important theorems in physics. Einstein called her 'the most significant creative mathematical genius thus far produced since the higher education of women began.' Despite her brilliance, she faced persistent gender discrimination and was never granted a full professorship in Germany.
