Rózsa Péter
罗莎·彼得
Founding Mother of Recursion Theory
Biography
Rózsa Péter is known as the 'founding mother of recursion theory,' a branch of mathematical logic that laid theoretical foundations for computer science. Her systematic study of recursive functions established the field as an independent area of research. She authored Playing with Infinity (1943), a beloved book that made complex mathematical ideas accessible to general readers and has been translated into over a dozen languages. In 1951, she became the first woman to be appointed an Academic Doctor of Mathematics in Hungary.
