NASA Inventor of the Illusion Transmitter

Biography

Valerie Thomas is a NASA scientist and inventor who patented the illusion transmitter in 1980, a pioneering technology that uses concave mirrors to produce real-time three-dimensional illusions of remote objects. She managed the Landsat data system at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, overseeing satellite imagery that has been used for decades in environmental and geological research. As one of the first African American women to work as a scientist at NASA, she paved the way for greater diversity in space science.
