Pioneer of Wavelet Theory

Biography

Ingrid Daubechies is a Belgian-American mathematician who revolutionized signal processing through her groundbreaking work on wavelet theory. Her compactly supported wavelets, known as Daubechies wavelets, transformed data compression and image analysis, underpinning technologies from JPEG 2000 to FBI fingerprint compression. She served as the first woman president of the International Mathematical Union from 2011 to 2014 and continues to apply mathematical tools to problems in art conservation and neuroscience.
