Maryna Viazovska

Biography

Maryna Viazovska became the second woman ever to win the Fields Medal in 2022, recognized for her proof that the E8 lattice provides the densest sphere packing in 8 dimensions. Her 2016 proof was celebrated for its remarkable elegance, using modular forms to solve a problem that had eluded mathematicians for centuries. She also contributed to solving the sphere packing problem in 24 dimensions and serves as a professor at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland.
