Emmanuelle Charpentier
埃曼纽尔·夏彭蒂耶
Co-inventor of CRISPR Gene Editing
Biography
Emmanuelle Charpentier is a French microbiologist and biochemist who co-developed CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing technology with Jennifer Doudna. Her discovery of tracrRNA, a molecule essential for bacterial immune defense, was the key insight that led to the development of the CRISPR tool. She shared the 2020 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, making Doudna and Charpentier the first all-female team to share a science Nobel.
