Mildred Cohn
米尔德里德·科恩
Pioneer of NMR Spectroscopy in Biochemistry
Biography
Mildred Cohn was an American biochemist who pioneered the use of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and isotope tracers to study enzyme mechanisms, transforming our understanding of how enzymes catalyze biological reactions. She received the National Medal of Science in 1982 and was the first woman elected to the board of directors of the American Chemical Society. As a professor at the University of Pennsylvania, she overcame significant gender discrimination throughout her career, having been denied teaching positions and promotions simply because she was a woman.
