Discovered Earth's Inner Core
Biography
Inge Lehmann was a Danish seismologist who discovered that Earth has a solid inner core within its liquid outer core. By analyzing seismic waves from earthquakes, she proposed in 1936 that the Earth's core is not a single molten sphere, as previously believed, but has a solid inner part. She lived to 104, making her one of the longest-lived scientists in history, and continued publishing research into her 70s.
