Proved the Existence of Dark Matter

Biography

Vera Rubin's observations of galaxy rotation curves provided the first strong evidence that most of the matter in the universe is invisible dark matter. Her meticulous work in the 1970s showed that galaxies rotate far faster than expected, implying the existence of vast amounts of unseen mass. Despite revolutionizing our understanding of the cosmos, she was never awarded the Nobel Prize. In 2020, the Vera C. Rubin Observatory in Chile was named in her honor.
