Biography

Samantha Cristoforetti is an Italian astronaut, fighter pilot, and engineer with the European Space Agency who became the first European woman to command the International Space Station in 2022. During her first mission in 2014–2015, she held the record for the longest single spaceflight by a woman at 199 days, a record later surpassed. She is widely recognized for her public outreach and efforts to inspire a new generation of European scientists and astronauts.
