Margaret Dayhoff
玛格丽特·戴霍夫
Pioneer of Bioinformatics
Biography
Margaret Dayhoff was a pioneer of bioinformatics who created the Atlas of Protein Sequence and Structure, the first comprehensive collection of protein sequences. She developed the PAM (Point Accepted Mutation) substitution matrices, which are still widely used in sequence alignment algorithms today. She established the first protein sequence database, a precursor to modern bioinformatics resources like GenBank and UniProt. Her work laid the computational foundations for the field of molecular evolution.
