Anne McLaren
安妮·麦克拉伦
Pioneer of In Vitro Fertilization
Biography
Anne McLaren was a developmental biologist who pioneered embryo manipulation techniques that laid the groundwork for in vitro fertilization (IVF). In 1958, she and John Biggers successfully grew mouse embryos outside the womb and transferred them back, producing live offspring — a breakthrough crucial to the later development of human IVF. She was a Fellow of the Royal Society and served on the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority, helping shape the ethical framework for reproductive technologies.
