Nobel Laureate for Telomerase Discovery

Biography

Carol Greider is a molecular biologist who co-discovered telomerase, the enzyme that replenishes telomeres at chromosome ends, while still a graduate student in Elizabeth Blackburn's laboratory in 1984. This groundbreaking discovery revealed a fundamental mechanism of cellular aging and cancer biology. She shared the 2009 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine with Blackburn and Jack Szostak. Her continued research on telomere biology has profound implications for understanding aging, cancer, and age-related diseases.
