Biography
Rachel Carson was a marine biologist and author whose 1962 book Silent Spring documented the devastating effects of pesticides on the environment, particularly DDT's impact on bird populations. Despite a vicious industry campaign to discredit her, her meticulous scientific research catalyzed the modern environmental movement and led directly to the creation of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the ban on DDT.
